The Most Reverend Timothy M. Dolan

Biographical Data

Timothy M. Dolan, the first of five children born to Robert and Shirley Dolan, was raised and educated at Holy Infant Parish and School, Ballwin, Missouri. After priestly formation at the seminaries in St. Louis, and the North American College in Rome, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of St. Louis in 1976. Following service as a parish priest, he earned his Doctorate in Church History at the Catholic University of America. Subsequent service included further parish work, assignment at the Apostolic Nunciature (Vatican Embassy) in Washington, D.C., and Rector of the North American College in Rome. In 2001, Pope John Paul II, appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of St. Louis, and, the following year, Archbishop of Milwaukee. Seven years later, in 2009, Pope Benedict XVI nominated him Archbishop of New York and in 2010, he was elected President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
