Respite Suites Debut

We are pleased to
announce the completion of two beautiful new respite suites at Schervier
Nursing Care Center, specifically designed to provide a home away from home
for senior loved ones and to offer families and caregivers a temporary
break. Respite stays are scheduled short term stays for someone who needs
skilled nursing care but who is usually looked after in the community.
Schervier’s new
respite suites meet Bon Secours New York’s goal of providing support for
caregivers and a warm, secure, relaxing environment with nursing care for
the individual. Admission to the Respite Program allows the primary
caregiver to take a vacation, get medical attention or needed time away from
the day-to-day demands of care giving. Schedules for respite care are
generally pre-arranged for several days but not more than 42 days except in
special circumstances.
Each respite suite is
private, beautifully designed, and consists of a bedroom, living room and
bathroom. The accommodations provide privacy plus supportive services and
amenities including access to a barber/beauty salon, private telephone,
private TV, newspapers and special transportation for personal use.
Services include, but
are not limited to delicious meals including special dietary needs as
prescribed by a physician; 24-hour a day nursing care; fresh bed linens;
laundry services; assistance and/or supervision when required with
toileting, bathing, feeding and ambulation; use of equipment, medical
supplies and modalities usually used in the individual’s everyday care;
therapeutic activities; social services; physical, occupational and speech
therapies, administered by a licensed registered therapist; and pastoral
care as requested. In addition, respite guests who have a diagnosis of
dementia are invited to participate in the Therapeutic Recreation Program in
the Schervier Center for Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care.
