Cardiac disease is the number one cause of death in the United States and is
a major challenge for patients and health care providers.
“Patients with complications from heart disease, stroke, COPD and other
cardiovascular disorders generally need clinical care and rehabilitation
therapy to improve their overall endurance, reach their prior level of
functioning, and return home to their community,” said Dr. Joseph Scarpa,
Vice President of Medical Services for Bon Secours New York Health System
and Schervier Nursing Care Center.
Schervier’s Cardio/Pulmonary Sub-Acute Care has specially trained staffing
with clinical competencies in the management of congestive heart failure and
other cardiopulmonary and cardiovascular diseases. The medical team
includes the attending physician, nurse practitioner, nursing educator,
respiratory therapist, cardiologist, psychologist, physiatrist,
pulmonologist, registered dietitian and social worker.
Rehabilitation services - physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech
therapy - are provided and managed by the Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.
Their rehabilitation expertise combined with Schervier’s medical and nursing
competencies have created this unique program which enables cardiopulmonary
patients to regain mobility and decrease hospital readmissions.
Each
cardiopulmonary patient room is designed with state of the art equipment
including piped in oxygen, wall suction, and specialized beds with call
bells, the ability to monitor weight, wound prevention mattresses and other
safety features.
Schervier’s Cardio/Pulmonary Sub-Acute Care is a nurturing environment
supported by clinicians and staff who care about the whole person—body, mind
and spirit.
